NEW TOURISM BILL TAKES CENTRE STAGE IN PARLIAMENTARY WORKSHOP

A crucial parliamentary workshop was held today, placing the future of Zimbabwe’s tourism industry at the forefront of national dialogue. The focus of the session was the new Tourism Bill, presented by the Minister of Tourism and Hospitality Industry, the Honourable Barbara Rwodzi. The workshop brought together legislators, tourism stakeholders, and industry leaders for a comprehensive overview and discussion of the proposed legislation.

Minister Rwodzi delivered a passionate presentation, highlighting how the Bill is designed to be a game-changer for the sector. She outlined its key provisions, which aim to drive sustainable tourism, improve governance, and align Zimbabwe’s tourism framework with both regional and international standards. Rwodzi emphasized the Bill’s potential to boost the country’s competitiveness as a tourist destination, attract much-needed investment, and empower local communities through tourism-related initiatives. The proposed law is a direct response to the need for a modern, robust legal framework that can support the growth and diversification of Zimbabwe’s tourism offerings.

Adding to the discussion, Mr. Clive Chinwada, President of the Tourism Business Council of Zimbabwe (TBCZ), praised the Ministry’s inclusive and consultative approach to drafting the Bill. He stressed the importance of continued collaboration between the government and the private sector to ensure the legislation’s successful implementation. Chinwada noted that a collaborative effort would guarantee the Bill delivers tangible results and benefits for all stakeholders within the industry.

The workshop concluded on a high note, with the Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Tourism and Hospitality Industry, the Honourable Joana Mamombe, commending the Ministry for its proactive policy direction. She assured the attendees that the Committee would provide its full support to refine and advance the Bill. Mamombe’s words signal strong parliamentary backing for the legislation, paving the way for its progression and eventual enactment. The positive reception from both the private sector and parliamentarians suggests a unified vision for a more vibrant and prosperous tourism industry in Zimbabwe. This new Bill is poised to be a cornerstone of the nation’s development agenda, leveraging tourism to create jobs and economic growth.
