MAISON D’AFRIQUE HOTELS TO OPEN IN ZIMBABWE NEXT YEAR
South Africa based investor and hotelier Christopher Jannou is set to make a significant impact on Zimbabwe’s hospitality industry with the planned opening of two five-star boutique hotels in 2025. This development is particularly noteworthy considering the country’s recent economic challenges and the potential for tourism to drive growth.
Jannou’s decision to invest in Zimbabwe aligns with his group’s broader focus on emerging African economies. With a portfolio that includes The Urban Hotel Group, Urban Africa Capital, and Urban International, his organization has a proven track record of successful real estate and private equity ventures.
The first of the two boutique hotels, Maison d’Afrique, is slated to open in Borrowdale, Harare. This 5-star concept, designed by Jannou’s in-house Urban Design Lab, promises a blend of edgy, sexy, and classic elegance. The second hotel is expected to be located in Victoria Falls, a popular tourist destination known for its iconic waterfalls and wildlife.
Jannou’s focus on smaller, 5-star boutique hotels is driven by a strategic belief in targeting the top 1% of travellers. This demographic is often willing to pay a premium for unique, high-quality experiences. By catering to this segment, Jannou aims to position his hotels as exclusive and desirable destinations.
Beyond the commercial aspects of his venture, Jannou is committed to making a positive social and economic impact in Africa. His recognition with a knighthood from the Mutambe Royal Establishment for his development services to Zambia underscores his dedication to the continent.
Jannou’s investment in Zimbabwe’s hospitality industry demonstrates his belief in the country’s potential. As tourism continues to play a vital role in driving economic growth, the opening of these boutique hotels could serve as a catalyst for further development and attract more international visitors.
