INTRODUCING THE ASSOCIATION FOR TOURISM HWANGE
The Association for Tourism Hwange (ATH) is a vital organization dedicated to showcasing and safeguarding the natural and cultural treasures of Hwange’s national parks.
Comprised of private safari operators, tourism suppliers, transportation companies, global travel buyers, and Destination Management Companies (DMCs), ATH is the sole entity connecting the entire Hwange region to promote its tourism potential.
The association fosters collaboration between tourism businesses, as well as between the private and public sectors, to ensure the sustainable development of the region.
ATH focuses on capacity building and quality management for tourism services, enhancing accessibility of tourism information and country marketing. They work to increase communication among all stakeholders involved in Hwange’s tourism development, promoting knowledge of conservation and sustainable practices within protected areas.
ATH facilitates the exchange of knowledge and experience to improve service quality at the local level, ultimately aiming to enhance the economic prosperity of local communities.
The association provides free training events for staff of member companies and supports capacity building for tourism infrastructure development. ATH actively engages in tourism marketing to support its members and coordinates joint charitable events benefiting under-resourced residents of the Hwange area. They also participate in tree planting initiatives in collaboration with the Forestry Commission in Zimbabwe.
Tourism, ATH believes, is a powerful force for good. It preserves culture and the environment, funding essential public facilities and services. Tourism fosters appreciation and stewardship of local natural, cultural, and historical resources. Conservation efforts are strengthened through industry-wide support for management, research, and education.
Tourism also boosts community pride and beautification, revitalizing towns and funding amenities enjoyed by both residents and visitors. It offers rural communities the opportunity to develop sustainable economic strategies, often leading to population growth and improved quality of life.
Tourism generates tax revenue that contributes to various public services, raises incomes and standards of living, and diversifies economies. It also fosters cultural exchange, preserves local cultural identity, and encourages the protection of ecology, natural environments, historic sites, and monuments. Ultimately, ATH champions tourism as an investment in the future of Hwange and its people.
