KAVINGA SAFARI CAMP – A HIDDEN GEM IN SOUTHERN MANA POOLS
For those yearning for an intimate and immersive encounter with the African wilderness, Kavinga Safari Camp presents an unparalleled experience. This exclusive, semi-tented safari camp is nestled within a private concession in the secluded southern reaches of Mana Pools National Park, offering a unique perspective of this renowned wildlife haven.
Perched dramatically on the edge of a cliff, Kavinga affords guests breathtaking, uninterrupted views of the dry Ruckomechi Riverbed stretching out towards the magnificent Zambezi Escarpment. Its strategic location, just 1 km upstream from the confluence of the Ruckomechi and Chiwuye Rivers, and a mere 8 km from the legendary Chitake Spring, positions it perfectly for exceptional wildlife viewing and a truly adventurous safari. The camp’s private concession also provides the flexibility of activities not always permitted within the main national park, such as night drives.
Accommodation at Kavinga is designed for comfort and privacy, catering to a maximum of 14 guests in seven beautifully appointed, raised tents. Each tent boasts a private veranda extending over the cliff’s edge, an idyllic spot for relaxing and observing the diverse wildlife drawn to the waterhole below. Inside, twin beds with comfortable bedding and en-suite bathroom facilities ensure a peaceful and convenient retreat where the wild heart of Africa meets understated luxury.
Beyond the comforts of the camp, a range of expertly guided activities awaits. Guests can embark on thrilling game drives to encounter elephants, lions, leopards, and the elusive African wild dog. Walking safaris offer an intimate perspective of the bush, allowing for a deeper understanding of animal tracks, plants, and birdlife. Night safaris reveal the nocturnal magic of Mana Pools, while dedicated bird watching and a well-camouflaged photographic hide near the waterhole provide unrivalled opportunities for close wildlife encounters and stunning photography.
Access to Kavinga Safari Camp is seamless, with options for both road and air transfers. The private concession features its own airstrip just 5 km from the camp, ensuring a scenic game drive transfer upon arrival and departure. Operating seasonally from April to November, the camp closes during the rainy season when the Ruckomechi River becomes impassable, guaranteeing optimal safari conditions for its guests. Kavinga Safari Camp is truly a hidden gem, offering an unforgettable and authentic African safari experience.
