ZTA CHARTS NEW STRATEGIC COURSE AT VICTORIA FALLS STAKEHOLDER ENGAGEMENT

Zimbabwe’s premier tourism hub recently served as the backdrop for a high-level strategic stakeholders’ engagement convened by the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA). The gathering marked a pivotal moment for the sector as it formally introduced the Authority’s new Board Chairman (Mr Christopher Sithole) and Chief Executive Officer (Dr George Manyaya) to the industry’s key players. Beyond a formal introduction, the meeting functioned as a critical platform for leadership to articulate a forward-looking strategic direction designed to navigate the complexities of the modern global travel market.

The central theme of the engagement revolved around strengthening destination competitiveness and elevating “Brand Zimbabwe” on the international stage. Leadership emphasized that in an increasingly crowded marketplace, Zimbabwe must leverage its unique natural wonders—such as the majestic Victoria Falls—alongside its rich cultural heritage to stand out. The strategy is not merely about increasing visitor numbers but about accelerating sustainable tourism growth that benefits local communities and preserves the environment for future generations.

In direct alignment with the national goals set out in Vision 2030 and the National Development Strategy 2 (NDS2), the ZTA reaffirmed its commitment to a philosophy of collaborative partnership. The Authority acknowledged that the ambitious goal of becoming a leading and resilient tourism destination cannot be achieved in isolation. Instead, it requires a unified front between the government and the private sector. This approach is rooted in responsive leadership and the delivery of practical, industry-driven solutions that address the specific “headwinds and curveballs” faced by operators on the ground.

The engagement also highlighted the importance of digital integration and innovation in marketing the destination. By fostering a more “phygital” approach—combining strong physical presence with cutting-edge digital touchpoints—the ZTA aims to ensure that the journey for every traveller is seamless from the first online search to the final departure. This strategic pivot ensures that Zimbabwe remains top-of-mind for global travellers seeking authenticity and world-class service.

As the meeting concluded, the sentiment among stakeholders was one of renewed optimism. With a clear roadmap and a leadership team dedicated to “holding the industry’s hand,” the ZTA is positioning the nation to not only recover from past global disruptions but to thrive as a paragon of African tourism excellence.
