ZIMPARKS ENGAGES WITH LOCAL PARLIAMENTARIANS

The Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Tourism and Hospitality Industry recently stepped up its legislative oversight by engaging directly with the leadership of the Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority. On 01 June, ZimParks officials hosted the esteemed legislative delegation for a high-level strategic meeting at their corporate head office in Harare.

The intensive discussion formed a core component of the committee’s formal oversight mandate, specifically targeting critical structural challenges and evaluating emerging growth opportunities within one of the nation’s foundational economic sectors.

At the heart of the bilateral dialogue was a comprehensive review of the current state of Zimbabwe’s protected conservation areas, existing tourism infrastructure, domestic and international visitor experiences, and ongoing wildlife conservation efforts. Lawmakers focused heavily on examining the systemic gaps in transport connectivity. They emphasized that the condition of road networks leading into major protected areas remains a significant bottleneck to tourism performance and long-term economic development.

Due to the fact that poor road conditions lower accessibility and raise operational costs for local businesses, this timely parliamentary probe highlighted the collective urgency to elevate the competitiveness of remote attractions like Hwange, Mana Pools, and Gonarezhou National Parks.

The engagement provided a transparent, collaborative platform for both state conservationists and legislators to brainstorm practical solutions to the complex, multi-layered challenges facing the country’s vast natural estates.
