ZIMPARKS ANNOUNCES RECRUITMENT DRIVE FOR 31 NEW RANGERS AT HWANGE
The Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority (Zimparks) has officially launched a major recruitment drive to fill thirty-one Ranger III (B3) positions within the Northwest Matabeleland Region. Interested and eligible candidates are invited to report to Hwange Main Camp on February 18, 2026, to begin a rigorous selection process. These new recruits will be stationed at Matetsi Unit 1 and Unit 5, where they will report directly to the Senior Ranger to bolster conservation efforts in the area.
The role of a Ranger III is demanding and multi-faceted, requiring a blend of law enforcement and ecological management. Primary responsibilities include conducting anti-poaching patrols, monitoring illegal activities, and managing fire and water resources within the park. Beyond security, successful incumbents will assist in the capture and translocation of animals, collect critical field data for strategic planning, and attend to problem animals or invasive plant species. Furthermore, rangers are expected to accompany and monitor hunts and provide vital information to the public regarding the mitigation of human-wildlife conflict.
Zimparks is seeking disciplined individuals between the ages of 18 and 30 who possess a GCE Ordinary Level qualification. Beyond academic requirements, the ideal candidate should demonstrate a basic understanding of wild animal behaviour and the Parks Estate environment, alongside strong interpersonal skills, professionalism, and maturity. Physical fitness is a non-negotiable prerequisite for the role, as the Authority seeks to maintain a high standard of field readiness.
The selection process is designed to be highly competitive and will begin promptly at 07:00 hrs. It commences with a gruelling 10km run, which must be completed in 45 minutes for male candidates and one hour for female candidates. Only the first 100 participants to successfully finish the run will advance to the next stages of evaluation. These subsequent stages include a series of physical tests such as push-ups, sit-ups, and chin-ups, followed by an oral interview to select the final thirty-one incumbents.
Candidates attending the recruitment must bring several essential items, including their original National Identification cards, academic and professional certificates, a detailed CV, and a written application. Applicants are also required to bring suitable fitness clothing, a water bottle, and their own food for the day. Zimparks notes that all candidates will be required to sign an indemnity form before participating in the selection process. For further details, interested parties can visit the official Zimparks website or contact their recruitment office via the official social media and WhatsApp channels.
