TUM TUM TREEHOUSE LODGE LAUNCHES IN HWANGE

Hwange National Park has long been the crown jewel of Zimbabwe’s wilderness, but a revolutionary new development is literally taking the safari experience to new heights. The unveiling of Tum Tum Treehouse Lodge marks a transformative moment for the region’s tourism industry, offering a rare opportunity for visitors to sleep among the canopy while Africa’s giants roam freely on the forest floor below.

This innovative project, spearheaded by the renowned Imvelo Safari Lodges, officially opened its doors on April 1, 2026, setting a new standard for sustainable luxury and architectural ingenuity in the heart of the bush.

Located in a remote and exclusive concession in the south-eastern reaches of the park, Tum Tum Treehouse Lodge is situated within a stunning grove of ancient camelthorn and teak trees. The lodge’s design is the result of a unique international collaboration between Imvelo and the US-based experts at Nelson Treehouse, famous for the television series Treehouse Masters. Together, they have created a sanctuary that prioritizes the health of the ecosystem.

The four signature treehouses are perched between twelve and sixteen feet above the ground, supported by specialized high-carbon steel limbs designed to mimic medical pins. This “tree-friendly” construction ensures that the structures are integrated into the living woodland without harming the ancient trees that have stood for centuries.

Each of the elevated treehouses features a blend of rustic charm and modern sophistication, with canvas roofs, hardwood platforms, and sliding glass doors that lead to private decks. These “Eagle’s Nest” balconies provide an unparalleled vantage point for observing the “wildlife parade” at the nearby waterholes.

From their bedrooms, guests can watch elephants, lions, and wild dogs moving through the dapple-shaded vlei. For those traveling in larger groups or seeking ground-level accommodations, the lodge also includes a luxury two-bedroom family suite complete with its own splash pool, ensuring that the magic of Tum Tum is accessible to all.

Beyond the luxury of its accommodations, Tum Tum Treehouse Lodge is deeply rooted in the philosophy of community-led conservation. The lodge is a critical part of the Community Rhino Conservation Initiative, located adjacent to the Mlevu Rhino Sanctuary. Guests have the unique opportunity to join the “Cobra” Community Wildlife Protection Unit to track white rhinos on foot, providing a firsthand look at how tourism directly funds the protection of endangered species. Furthermore, the lodge maintains a strong connection with nearby villages, providing employment and supporting local infrastructure, schools, and clinics.

The launch of Tum Tum Treehouse Lodge is a powerful testament to Zimbabwe’s resilience and growth as a premier global safari destination. By combining world-class design with a deep commitment to the environment and local people, the lodge offers more than just a place to sleep; it provides a profound connection to the natural world. As the first guests begin to arrive this April, Hwange National Park continues to prove that the future of African tourism lies in high-impact, low-footprint experiences that protect the wild for generations to come.
