TOURISM MONTH KICKS OFF IN MUTARE

Zimbabwe is set to celebrate a dynamic Tourism Month this September, with a jam-packed schedule of activities culminating in the highly anticipated Sanganai/Hlanganani Kumbanayi Tourism Expo. During a press conference in Harare today, the Minister of Tourism and Hospitality Industry, Hon. Barbara Rwodzi, expressed confidence that this year’s expo, hosted for the first time in Mutare, will be a resounding success. The shift to Manicaland aligns with the government’s devolution agenda, aiming to highlight the province’s unique tourism offerings and stimulate its economy.

The expo has already generated significant international interest, with 83 international buyers from key source markets and 11 local buyers confirmed to attend. The number of registered exhibitors has also soared to 411, showcasing the country’s diverse tourism products and services. The event, scheduled for September 10-12 at the Mutare Sports Club, will serve as a premier platform for business exchange and networking.

Minister Rwodzi highlighted the comprehensive infrastructure upgrades in Manicaland that will support the expo and leave a lasting legacy for the province. These include significant road improvements, the refurbishment of the Grand Reef Aerodrome, and the launch of daily Air Zimbabwe flights and a luxury train service connecting Harare and Mutare. These developments are expected to create jobs and foster long-term economic growth.

Joined by Deputy Minister Hon. Tongai Mnangagwa, Minister Rwodzi praised the media for their crucial role in amplifying the expo’s visibility. She called for sustained coverage to ensure the event’s success and to promote Zimbabwe as a top tourist destination.

Tourism Month will feature a wide array of activities, including a Tourism Symposium, various Sports Tourism events such as a marathon, and the official celebrations for World Tourism Day. These initiatives are designed to showcase Zimbabwe’s appeal beyond its traditional tourism hubs and position the country as a vibrant, multifaceted destination. The September events are poised to be a defining moment for Zimbabwe’s tourism sector, driving investment, forging new partnerships, and cementing its place on the global tourism map.
