TBCZ APPOINTS NEW ACTING CEO
The Tourism Business Council of Zimbabwe (TBCZ) has officially announced a significant leadership transition following the retirement of its long-serving Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Paul Matamisa. To ensure a smooth handover and continued momentum within the sector, Mr. Christopher Sithole-Kushata has been appointed as the incoming Acting Chief Executive Officer, effective February 2026.
The change in guard comes at a pivotal time for Zimbabwe’s tourism industry, as it continues to navigate the post-pandemic recovery phase and seeks to solidify its position as a premier destination in the SADC region. Mr. Matamisa, a veteran of the industry, stepped down at the end of January 2026, leaving behind a legacy of dedicated service and advocacy for private sector players in the tourism value chain.
The TBCZ, which serves as the umbrella body representing the interests of various tourism associations in the country, expressed its confidence in the new leadership through an official public notice. Mr. Sithole-Kushata takes the helm with the primary objective of advancing the Council’s mandate and fostering growth across the industry at large.
Industry stakeholders have welcomed the appointment, noting that an interim leadership structure allows for stability while the Council explores long-term strategic goals. The TBCZ remains the critical link between the private sector and the government, ensuring that policies are conducive to business growth and that Zimbabwe remains competitive on the global stage.
In its announcement, the Council advised its stakeholders and the general public that they look forward to the advancement of the tourism industry under Mr. Sithole-Kushata’s guidance. His role will involve:
- Lobbying and Advocacy: Engaging with regulatory bodies to ensure a favourable operating environment for tour operators, hoteliers, and travel agents.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Maintaining strong ties with international tourism boards and local investment partners.
- Sector Growth: Implementing strategies that align with the national vision of making tourism a multi-billion dollar pillar of the Zimbabwean economy.
As the industry moves into the second quarter of 2026, all eyes will be on the TBCZ to see how it adapts to the evolving travel landscape. The Council has reaffirmed its commitment to seeing the sector thrive and contributing significantly to the nation’s GDP.
