SHORT IN ARM FOR ZIMPARKS

A proud gesture of support has strengthened community outreach in Matobo, following the handover of a commuter omnibus to ZimParks by a local miner.

The donation came through Time Streams Mine, owned by Mr. Brian Samuriwo, who delivered a fully functional 35-seater bus to the Matobo regional office.

The omnibus is expected to become a vital transport lifeline for residents helping children reach school on time, enabling sick people to access nearby clinics, and supporting rangers as they carry out routine patrols to protect and conserve the natural environment.

Samuriwo said the donation reflects the promise he made when he first secured mining rights in the area in 2016. He explained that his role as a private operator is not only about extracting resources, but also about giving back to the community that made his business possible.

“In 2016, the community gave me, the privilege to mine in this sacred landscape. Since then, I have used the resources building Matobo,” he said during the handover.

Samuriwo said this is the vow he made when he signed his first lease, and it is the vow he renewed today as he handed over the bus.

“I will continue developing Matobo community using the resources from this very land. This is my way of paying back to the community that has shaped and made the businessman I am today.”

Samuriwo added that his development support has continued to grow over the years, and he intends to keep expanding empowerment programmes through continued investment and community focused projects.

Since entering into the lease agreement in 2016, Samuriwo said he has supported several initiatives aimed at improving livelihoods and reducing hardship for residents especially during challenging seasons such as drought periods.

“Last drought, I facilitated the scooping and deepening of Maleme Dam, ensuring that the community and their livestock get water. Water availability remains one of his top priorities because it directly affects both people and animals”, said Samuriwo.

Zimparks officials, community representatives, and stakeholders welcomed the gesture, describing the bus as a practical solution to transport barriers that often delay access to essential services. They praised Samuriwo for sustaining consistent support rather than limiting assistance to isolated events.
