SHANGANI SAFARIS: A GATEWAY TO GONAREZHOU NATIONAL PARK
By Martin Chemhere

Shangani Safaris offers an ideal base for adventurers looking to explore the natural beauty of Zimbabwe, particularly the magnificent Chilojo Cliffs and the wider Gonarezhou National Park. The company operates two main camps, Mwachumeni Camp and Naivasha Camp, both strategically located to provide easy access to some of the country’s most stunning landscapes.
Mwachumeni Camp, situated on the northern banks of the Save River in Mahenye, is a true paradise for birds and nature lovers. The camp is set under beautiful, old trees with a special view of the river, creating a serene and picturesque environment.
From here, visitors can embark on day trips to iconic sites such as Chivilila Falls and the largest Nyala Berry tree in Southern Africa. During the dry season, the camp serves as an excellent starting point for 4×4 self-driving adventures into Gonarezhou National Park.

Naivasha Camp is another prime location for those planning a visit to Gonarezhou. The camp is conveniently located just 5 kilometres from the Boli Entrance Gate, making it an ideal choice for self-driving trips into the park.
It also serves as a perfect overnight stop for travellers heading to Mozambique or those on their way to South Africa’s Kruger National Park via the Sango Border Post and Pafuri Gate. Both camps offer day trips to the unique and stunning Chilojo Cliffs, a journey described as beautiful and very adventurous.
Recent self-driving trips from Shangani Safaris have been highly successful, with lucky visitors spotting a diverse array of wildlife, including White Rhinos, Klip Springers, and Spotted Hyenas.
The camps provide a relaxing and enjoyable experience, where guests can bring their own food and drinks while the dedicated cooks prepare their meals. The focus is on providing a seamless and memorable safari experience, allowing guests to fully immerse themselves in the wild heart of Zimbabwe.
