MUSANGANO LODGE: THE PLACE WHERE PEOPLE MEET

Musangano Lodge—named after the Shona word for “the place where people meet”—is nestled in the lush, tree-covered slopes of Zimbabwe’s Eastern Highlands. It offers a peaceful retreat for those seeking tranquillity, natural beauty, and heartfelt hospitality. More than just a destination, it’s a place to reconnect—with nature, with yourself, and with others—ideal for solo travellers, couples, families, or friends looking to create lasting memories.
Spread across expansive grounds, the lodge provides space, privacy, and freedom to relax. Landscaped gardens serve as an open-air gallery featuring local art, while on-site activities include a swimming pool, children’s playground, table tennis, trampoline, and scenic hiking trails through the surrounding hills.
Accommodation is designed to suit diverse needs, with space for up to 52 guests. Choose from cosy thatched chalets, spacious self-catering lodges, hotel-style rooms in the Shiri Collection, or tented stays at Cuckoo Campground. Each unit blends ethnic decor with modern amenities such as DStv and Wi-Fi (Wi-Fi only in tents).

The thatched chalets and lodges—named after indigenous tree species—feature porches, seating areas, kitchenettes, and fireplaces, perfect for quiet retreats. The self-catering lodges offer two or three bedrooms, stunning views, and inviting ethnic interiors. The Shiri Collection, named after local birds, offers eco-friendly rooms with flat-screen TVs, minibars, tea/coffee stations, sleek en-suites, and private balconies overlooking the bush.
For outdoor enthusiasts, the rustic campsite provides an authentic bush experience, with solar-powered thatched ablution blocks and two comfortable tented units. Cuckoo Campground also serves as a convenient stopover for those travelling to Mozambique, Masvingo, Gonarezhou, or the Save Conservancy.
For events, the Sungano Function Venue is ideal for MICE gatherings (meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions), weddings, and private celebrations. Just 1.5 km off the Harare-Mutare Road, it can accommodate up to 120 guests for receptions and 80 for seated events.
Dining at PaMuchakata Restaurant, named after a culturally significant local tree, is a highlight. The menu combines Southern African and Central European flavours, with rotating specials, weekend buffets, and traditional Zimbabwean dishes like sadza, leafy greens, and mopane worms, all made with fresh, locally sourced ingredients.

The lodge’s 140-hectare property invites exploration via signposted trails or guided hikes. Beyond the grounds, the Eastern Highlands captivate with breathtaking landscapes, untouched wilderness, and warm, welcoming communities. Musangano offers curated day trips combining sightseeing with authentic cultural exchange. From birdwatching, golf, and scenic hikes to ziplining over Mutarazi Falls—Africa’s second-highest waterfall—and safaris in Gonarezhou National Park or Save Valley Conservancy, adventure abounds.
Musangano’s “Nurturing Communities. Shaping Lives.” initiative gives guests the chance to connect meaningfully with locals through pre-arranged visits to homes and workplaces. These responsible tourism experiences generate income for hosts while offering visitors authentic insights into Zimbabwean life. Experience Zimbabwe the Musangano way—where every visit is a journey into beauty, connection, and genuine hospitality.
