KAZ DUBE: ONE OF AFRICA’S CELEBRATED GUIDES

By Martin Chemhere

Embark on an extraordinary journey into the heart of Zimbabwe’s untamed wilderness with Kaz Dube, a celebrated guide whose deep connection to the land and its wildlife transforms a safari into an immersive exploration. His own safari company, Great Guide Safaris, invites people, from all over the world, to experience Hwange National Park, a vast and iconic sanctuary, through the eyes of a master. The company offers a unique blend of walking and driving safaris that delve into the park’s hidden wonders.

Your adventure begins with a personalized transfer from the majestic Victoria Falls, leading you to an exclusive mobile bush camp, a haven of simple luxury strategically positioned in one of three distinct regions of Hwange: Kennedy, Sinamatella, or Robins. This mobile camp, a testament to responsible tourism, leaves a minimal ecological footprint, erected and dismantled with each tour, allowing wildlife to roam freely past your tented dwelling.

Kaz Dube, an award-winning guide, personally leads each safari, ensuring an intimate and insightful experience. His profound understanding of animal behaviour and his knack for storytelling bring the wilderness to life, revealing the intricate narratives woven into every rustle, track, and scent. This is not merely a game drive; it’s a journey into the soul of Africa, where the pace of walking allows you to discover details often overlooked from a vehicle.

Hwange National Park, a sprawling expanse of 14,600 square kilometres, boasts an incredible diversity of wildlife, including elephants, lions, black rhinos, buffalo, leopards, cheetahs, and painted dogs, alongside over 400 bird species. The park’s renowned elephant population and rich biodiversity guarantee unforgettable encounters at every turn.

The Great Guide Safaris experience is tailored to the individual needs of each group, accommodating families and friends with a minimum of four and a maximum of ten guests. Kaz and his team prioritize personalized attention, ensuring that every safari, whether on foot or by vehicle, aligns with the interests and capabilities of the participants. This focus on exclusivity and customization sets Great Guide Safaris apart, offering a truly bespoke adventure.

Kaz Dube’s dedication to conservation extends beyond guiding. He actively supports local communities, using tourism revenue to fund sustainable farming projects and improve livelihoods. His vision is to create magical safari experiences that contribute to the protection and preservation of Zimbabwe’s natural heritage.

Kaz’s journey to becoming a professional guide is a testament to his unwavering passion and perseverance. Born and raised near Hwange National Park, he developed a deep connection to the wilderness from an early age. After obtaining his Learner Professional Guide License, he spent five years seeking apprenticeship and training opportunities, finally achieving his breakthrough in 2006.

His dedication led to four years of intensive practical training in Mana Pools National Park, culminating in his qualification in 2010, where he earned the distinction of “Best Guide at Proficiency.” Kaz’s expertise and commitment have earned him a legendary status in safari circles, and his recognition as Safari Guide of the Year in 2010 underscores his exceptional talent.

He is a passionate storyteller, sharing tales of Zimbabwe’s wildlife with audiences around the world, promoting safaris in his homeland. His deep connection to the land and his commitment to conservation make him an exceptional guide, offering a safari experience that is both authentic and impactful.
