FREE DOWNLOADABLE MAPS TO NAVIGATE HWANGE NATIONAL PARK RELEASED
Popular travel publication Great Zimbabwe Guide has officially released a new suite of free, downloadable terrain and route maps designed specifically for self-drive enthusiasts and international safari planners. The digital mapping initiative aims to simplify the intricate logistics of navigating Hwange National Park, a premier Southern African wildlife destination that routinely challenges travelers with its massive scale and rugged, untamed geography.
Covering a staggering 14,651 square kilometers, Hwange National Park is the largest protected reserve in Zimbabwe and the third largest on the African continent. To put its footprint into perspective for global travelers, the park is roughly the same size as Northern Ireland and slightly larger than Death Valley National Park in California. Located in the northwest corner of the country, it sits approximately 283 kilometers from Bulawayo and 172 kilometers south of the iconic, showstopping Victoria Falls.
Because of its colossal size, planning a reliable itinerary requires accurate spatial awareness. The new downloadable maps are optimized to assist self-drive visitors who are legally permitted to navigate the park’s road network during daylight hours. Independent travelers are advised to head directly to Main Camp, the primary administrative gateway and visitor reception center for the park. There, self-drive guests can settle their required daily conservation and entry fees, while those booked with high-end, private safari lodges can typically expect their hosts to coordinate these regulatory entry logistics seamlessly on their behalf.
