AIR ZIMBABWE SET TO INTRODUCE FLIGHTS BETWEEN HARARE AND MUTARE FOR SANGANAI/HLANGANANI WORLD TRAVEL EXPO

By Martin Chemhere

Air Zimbabwe has announced the launch of daily return flights between Harare and Mutare from September 8 to 14, 2025. This strategic move is in anticipation of the highly awaited Sanganai/Hlanganani World Travel Expo, which is scheduled to take place from September 10 to 12 in Mutare. This new flight service is a key part of Air Zimbabwe’s turnaround strategy, which aims to expand its domestic route network and improve connectivity across the nation.

By offering these flights, the national carrier is demonstrating its commitment to making travel within Zimbabwe easier and more accessible, directly supporting the Ministry of Tourism and Hospitality Industry’s efforts to grow the sector. The decision to host this year’s Sanganai/Hlanganani in Manicaland Province presents a unique opportunity to showcase the Eastern Highlands, one of Zimbabwe’s most beautiful and diverse tourism destinations. Air Zimbabwe is playing a crucial role in enabling this by providing a convenient travel option for exhibitors, delegates, and visitors.

According to Air Zimbabwe Chief Executive Officer Mr. Edmund Makona, this operation is a pilot project designed to test the market’s response and explore the long-term viability of the route. He stated that if there is sufficient demand, the airline is prepared to make the Harare-Mutare route a permanent part of its network. The new flights also offer seamless connections, allowing passengers to travel between Victoria Falls, Harare, and Mutare, thereby facilitating a multi-destination travel experience within Zimbabwe. Travelers from Mutare will also have easy access to regional and international connections via Harare.

Air Zimbabwe has collaborated closely with the Civil Aviation Authority of Zimbabwe (CAAZ), Airports Company of Zimbabwe (ACZ), National Handling Services (NHS), and the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA) to ensure all necessary infrastructure and support services are in place for a smooth operation. Mr. Makona emphasized that Air Zimbabwe is more than just an airline; it is a bridge connecting people, cultures, and opportunities. He added that the new flights are proof of the airline’s dedication to growth, its belief in Zimbabwe’s tourism potential, and its determination to keep the nation flying high. To further enhance convenience, the airline has also partnered with PayNow, enabling customers to easily book and pay for their tickets online from anywhere.
