By Martin Chemhere

In a concerted effort to enhance Zimbabwe’s appeal as a premier travel destination, a group of prominent South African tourism agents embarked on a three-day familiarization tour of Victoria Falls. This initiative, spearheaded by the Ministry of Tourism and Hospitality Industry and the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority, aimed to showcase the region’s unparalleled natural beauty and diverse tourism offerings.

The tour, facilitated by key partners including Fastjet Zimbabwe, Tourvest, XL Nexus, and Stanley Safaris, provided the agents with firsthand experience of Victoria Falls’ iconic attractions. Participants were immersed in the region’s breathtaking landscapes, experiencing activities ranging from guided tours of the majestic falls to wildlife encounters and adventure sports.

The familiarization trip sought to strengthen ties between South African and Zimbabwean tourism sectors, fostering collaboration and driving increased visitor numbers. By experiencing the destination firsthand, the agents gained valuable insights into the unique selling points of Victoria Falls, enabling them to effectively promote the region to their clientele.

This initiative underscores the strategic importance of regional tourism partnerships in bolstering Zimbabwe’s economy. The collaboration between the Ministry of Tourism, the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority, and private sector partners highlights a unified approach to marketing the country’s tourism potential.

The agents expressed enthusiasm about the diverse experiences offered in Victoria Falls, noting the region’s potential to attract a wide range of travellers. The tour is expected to translate into increased bookings and a significant boost in tourism revenue for Zimbabwe, reinforcing Victoria Falls as a must-visit destination in Southern Africa.
